Most companies need a printing service on a regular basis, whether it is for promotional purposes or intra-company communication. Offset printing is the most frequently used printing technology and knowing about it is therefore helpful and important.
The clients and the printers like offset printing because of its cost effectiveness for printing of large number of prints. Therefore good printing service suppliers recommend the use of offset printing for large volume of prints.
This printing technology uses oil-based ink, which the water can not dissolve. Its so called because in this method, images are not transported directly from the plates to the paper but this is done using rubber blankets as a medium.
First step is to prepare the images. Previously the images were produced by creating film negatives and were then transferred to aluminum printing plates. In the current times, the printers can make use of the image setting system for preparing the plates directly. After this, the plate is attached to a cylinder with the right side facing upwards. Thereafter water, and then ink, is spread on the image plates. While the ink gets fixed to the image, the water gets stuck to that part of the plate where there is no image so that the ink does not spill beyond the image.
The image is then transferred from the plates to the rubber blanket spun on another cylinder, so that it is reversed. After that, sheets of paper of desired dimensions are put together and the rubber blankets transfer the image to the sheets on a third cylinder, where it comes out as the right side.
Printed sheets are stapled, pasted, or arranged in any other manner as needed and the printing company sends them after giving some finishing touches.
